St. Louis businessman, Thomas Green, dies at 83

ST. LOUIS, MO/April 3, 2017 (STLRealEstate.News) Thomas Green, one of St. Louis’ most respected and prolific businessmen, lawyers, and real estate moguls with decades of experience bettering the greater St. Louis community, this week officially passed away at 83.  Mr. Green, known for his dedication to the law and the Jewish community, left a lasting impression on the city, as well as those who knew him personally.

A man of many talents and accolades, Mr. Green’s contributions as a lawyer, businessman, and public servant inspired many throughout his lifetime.  As a philanthropist who co-founded the Holocaust Museum of St. Louis and once chaired the board of the Jewish Federation of St. Louis, local residents will never forget Mr. Green’s support for the greater Jewish community.

“Tom was, of course, more than simply a federation board chair.  He was a true foundation of our community and the Jewish people for decades,” said Andrew Rehfeld, federation president and chief officer in a statement this week.

In addition to his commitment to the Jewish community, Mr. Green was integral in the founding of Royal Banks of Missouri, National Real Estate Management, and National States Insurance Company back in the 1960s.

Mr. Green was born in 1933 right in St. Louis, and was the first of his family to earn a college degree.  He attended Wellston High School as well as the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign on a basketball scholarship.  He earned his Bachelor’s degree in accounting, and went on to get a law degree from Washington University in 1958.

Destined for greatness from a young age, Mr. Green served as assistant county counselor for St. Louis County and assistant attorney general of Missouri shortly thereafter.  While that was happening, he also ran his own private law practice.

Mr. Green will be sorely missed by everyone in St. Louis, and is survived by his wife and children.
