The J’s Department of Jewish Life and the St. Louis Jewish Film Festival, in partnership with the Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School, are hosting a screening of Counted Out, a film that investigates the biggest crises of our time – political polarization, racial biases, social injustice, economic inequity, climate change, and a global pandemic – all viewed through a previously unseen lens: math.
Plus, stay after the film for a special virtual Q&A with director Vicki Abeles, moderated by Mirowitz Jewish Community School’s Interim Head of School, Brian Thomas.
Film Synopsis
In a world increasingly driven by data, algorithms, polls, and statistics, understanding math, Counted Out, the powerful new documentary from filmmaker Vicki Abeles, explores how our relationship with mathematics affects everything from education and opportunity to democracy and the decisions we make every day.
You don’t have to love math to be fascinated by this film. In fact, if you’ve ever said, “I’m just not a math person,” this documentary may be especially for you.
Discover why being able to understand the numbers shaping our world has never mattered more.
